This painting is a part of my collaboration with @zokayoner, where figurative art meet graffiti for a common artshow.
It pays tribute to Nina Simone and her definition of freedom and the artist's duty. Priestess, witch. Her voice and music captivated the world and positioned her as a woman who never settled for anything. "I tell you what freedom is... No fear".
Nina Simone was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, and civil rights activist. She is widely regarded as one of the greatest singers of all time and a champion of social justice.
Throughout her career, Simone used her platform to speak out against racism, injustice, and inequality. She was a fierce advocate for the Civil Rights Movement and sang powerful protest songs like "Mississippi Goddam" and "To Be Young, Gifted and Black". Simone's artistry and activism were intertwined, and she used her music to inspire social change and promote equality.
Despite facing numerous obstacles, including racial discrimination and mental health issues, Simone remained committed to her beliefs and continued to make music that challenged the status quo. Her eternal rebellion and unwavering dedication to social justice have made her a legendary figure and an inspiration to generations of musicians and activists.
